Skull Collection Update by Lupen202 Skull Collection Update by Lupen202
Thought it was time to get a new photograph, as I've gotten quite a few more skulls since my old one: [link]

It was hard fitting them all in x.x

Top shelf, left to right:

Zebra
Horse
Elk
Newborn Lamb
White Tail Deer
Camel
Juvenile Javelina

Bottom Shelf, left to right:

Bat-eared fox
Black-backed jackal
Domestic Puppy
Wolf dog/wolf hybrid
Another wolf hybrid
Pit bull
Black bear cub
Black bear
Grizzly bear
Civet
Hyena
Wolf
Aardwolf
Wolverine
Raccoon
Domestic Kitten
Nile crocodile

Behind on the bottom shelf:

Emu egg
Ostrich Egg
Ceanothus Silk moth in a case (found dead outside)
Some mosasaur teeth
and a cat skeleton.

Not pictured:

Oreodont skull
European (?) starling skeleton
Pigeon Skull

And if it counts, one of those alligator heads people sell as souvenirs.

I can't fit anymore x.x I'll hopefully be getting a display cabinet for them all, though.

Amazing collection!

What's a good way to get large exotic carnivore bones? I'd love to add, like, a lion skull to my collection someday but I'm nervous about getting it from a reputable source.

I tend to buy from skulls unlimited for the more exotic things, Ebay and other sites for the more common; Skulls unlimited is a museum that also sells items on their website and is the most reputable and legal site I can think of, though they can be pricey. They even have some sea lion skulls available and in the US you can't find legal ones anywhere else.

The problem with lions though is that January of this year they were placed on the endangered species list, which makes getting a legal lion skull much more difficult.

I purchased it from hideandfur.com :) I don't think they have any in stock at the moment, but you should keep checking back as they usually get new things in quite often.

I've also seen some up on Etsy and Ebay though, and skullsunlimited.com might have some, but they can be a bit pricey.

Thank you... I'm trying to start my own collection, but all I have at the moment are a few unidentifiable bones....

No problem and good luck ^^ It took awhile to build up my collection, but it's been a pretty fun "hobby" of mine. Skulls are just so interesting and are great for learning anatomy as well.

Amazing!!!  I got a collection too.  Not as big as yours though.  I currently have about 50 skulls but it's still growing.

I clean them myself.

Anyway, neat stuff, keep collecting!

Wow... That's a lot! I'm on my way to having that many, but not there yet. I have a 'coon, python, gar, gator head, frog, fish, and a few more... That's all skulls, except the frog and fish, those are skeletons. All but the 'coon are from Ebay. I have a duck buried in my garden...

wow, they all seem like in perfect condition! This reminds me of a friend of mine who collects skulls too, driving his wife crazy by keeping them for days drenched in base in a bucket right in the middle of the flat ;) So for him there are some pros to be a biology professor.
I don't know where you get them from, so as a little hint try asking any zoology prof if they may have some for you. I know in my university they already got a hippo and lion skull as presents from zoos, even though they may not collect them ;)

Thank you ^^ And I've bought all of them except for a gopher, pigeon and rat skull that I found and cleaned, though they aren't pictured. Sadly not many animals around here anymore, let alone skulls just laying around. :(

Aw, that's to bad. Did you pick up all you could find? :giggle:
I love hiking around looking for skulls, I would not be happy living in the city where you couldn't find any. :XD: Carcass are fun to look at and find. :B
Ya, I have trouble finding ones in mint condition. But the broken ones are fun to and have character.

Ugh I would so be a skull person if I had money. I started my animal-parts collection with fur so I wanna get a few more of those before I dive into skulls. But I'm a poor college student haha. More important things to pay for, I suppose. Awesome collection though, I'm extremely jealous!

I've gotten them from a few different places, mainly skullsunlimited.com, hideandfur.com, *Minotaur-Queen's etsy and worldwildlifeproducts on ebay. I've gotten a few skulls from other sellers and such as well, but as I said, those are the places where I get most of them. And I love them too xD

I've checked them out, they have really beautiful stuff but it's pretty shocking how expensive even the really small/common skulls are. Probably has something to do with their good quality. Is everything going to be shipped from the US?

They love animals, the skulls were given to them or they bought them. An animal lover having skulls from different animals isn't a bad thing, it's useful as you can learn alot about the animals themselves. Mainly anatomy but there are probably other things to learn from animals skulls.

I mean Skulls and taxidermy are used in museums and even in schools, colleges, universities and even animal clinics for education purposes.

I own two dogs, four cats. If you haven't noticed, none of the animals are peoples loved pets. They're all wild animals that need to be culled or died of natural causes. Im guessing you're just joking but it kind of irks me, to be completely honest.

Yep, though it depends on your state more than anything. The country as a whole is one of the more accepting.

And it depends on the skull. Something small like an ermine could be just a few dollars, while something like a hyena or lion could be upwards of $500.
